Wednesday 3/25

It was a great season!  Unless we get a surprise snowstorm, trails are finished. Thanks groomers! Skiers please consider donating to Friends of Cole's Woods so that we can keep the trails in shape for next ski season and all year long!

Saturday Morning 3/21

Still fast skating and dodging debris and ice.  Fun but really need a snowfall or season will end quickly.

Friday 11:30AM

Skied 3 fast loops and it was fun!  Some ice and cones, but do-able and invigorating ⛄️

March 20 report

Come out and ski on the first day of Spring. The 5K loop with the exception of the section by the YMCA has been groomed. The snow conditions were not conducive to setting a classic track. There are a few areas that have some small debris from the trees but are still skiable. Enjoy!

Thursday March 19th

Downed trees have been cleared and most sections have been raked free of debris. Avoid the loop by the YMCA due to bare spots.

Thursday 5pm update

Chris & Will Frielinghaus removed the downed trees and we cleared a lot of cones and debris.  Grooming will be occurring this evening and again early Friday AM to break up the hard pack and should be good skating for Friday and Saturday ❄️ More news to come from the groomers⛄️

Thursdays conditions

There is still some snow to be found. The 5k loop is almost intact with some detours for bare spots and a couple down trees. The trees are on the long diagonal and by the four corners behind the ice rink. The snow is fast for skating, just watch out for snow snakes!

Saturday 3/14

Fast, hard and bumpy earlier this AM but should get better as day goes on. Still plenty of snow out there!

Friday the 13th ❄️

Bill Parks just groomed the 5K and it may be one of the last great skate days out there!  Get out there and ski this afternoon or evening.  Nice and fast. ⛄️⛄️⛄️

Thanks to groomers!❄️❄️❄️⛄️⛄️⛄️

My family, friends and I have enjoyed more days skiing in Cole's Woods than any prior season thanks to the  volunteer groomers and the new equipment acquired with community donations through Friends of Cole's Woods. Thanks Niles, Chris, Bob, Bill, Jack and anyone I may have missed for the great grooming.  With luck, maybe we can make it last a little bit longer
 ❄️

Trail Report

The warm weather is chewing through our snow pretty quickly. The 5k has been groomed and track set. The skate lane and track were soft and wet this morning, but with the wind and cold weather it should dry out and set up tonight. Conditions will be very fast tonight if it firms up. There is a lot of tree debris on the trials from the wind. Some bare spots have started to form. We were able to cover them thanks to our awesome new grooming machine. Remember if you liked the conditions this year, all the work in the trails is volunteer, and our budget is based on your donations.

Trail Report

The 5k loop has been groomed and track set. The skate lane is fast and firm. The classic track is shallow and soft. Conditions are more favorable for skating. The snow should soften up nice today. Use caution on the ungroomed trails. There is still some tree debris on the trails.

Primary surface: Granular
Secondary surface: Hard pack

Monday 3/9 Noon

Overall OK skating alternating between packed slick spots in the shade and sticky wet spots in the sun. Trails need grooming and there's some debris.  We could get a lot more skiing in this season with the new equipment, especially with the cold nights to freeze it up.

Sunday 3/8 11am

Great skating in late morning! Classic tracks a bit slow.  Looking forward to a couple more weeks of nice spring skiing with the new grooming equipment 😊❄️⛄️

Saturday, March 7, 2015

Morning Report

Smoothed out the 5k skate lane, and groomed and track set all other trails. The 5k track was left ungroomed. I apologize for grooming over some of the classic track, but most of it is still deep. The skate lane is fast and firm!

Primary surface: Machine groomed packed powder

Conditions

You can't ask for much better than this. Fresh groom on the skate lane this morning. The classic track was left mostly untouched. Secondary trails have been groomed. Check out the Hadley Loop for an interesting alternative. Enjoy

Secondary surface: deep powder

Wednesday Noon 2/25/15

Temps at freezing and sunny so sticky going for skate and classic.  Would wait until temps drop for better skiing, perhaps this evening.  No grooming today. Hard pack.

Tuesday 2/24 report

Cold snow and hard packed so skating was good with some friction.  Some debris on trails.  If groomed on Wednesday, should be perfect.

AM Snow Report

Snow Height: 6cm

We did not get any snow, just rain and ice yesterday.  Snow height dropped, the trails are groomed only, it was too little to set track yesterday.

Air Temp: -14.5C

We picked up about 5cm of snow yesterday.  The trails were groomed and track set as of Sunday, so this amount should keep it skiable.  Will post if any further grooming reports come in.  Enjoy the powder conditions.

We are now set up nicely for the two NYSSRA races to take place this weekend in Cole's Woods.

Snow Report

Temp: -24.5C
Snow Height: 4cm

The 4cm sleet and ice did not melt fully and froze hard, with a dusting of clipper we were back to the 4cm mark. Very cold hope for more snow.

AM Snow Report

Snow Height: 4cm

We picked up snow and sleet, it is a sheet of ice everywhere, if the rain and melt are not too severe we have an instant base, then clipper snow during the week things could be quite skiable. Cross your fingers and check back tomorrow.
