PM Trail Report

Air Temperature: -17.6C
Rel. Humidity: 70%
Snow Height: 11cm
Snow Type: Thin powder with boilerplate ice underneath
Weather: clear and coooold

Back on my feet and skis.  The trails are actually nice for rock skis.  There is anywhere from 2mm to 2cm of powder snow on boilerplate hard ice, depending on whether it's under a lot or little tree cover, respectively.  Fortunately, all the downhills are on the more snow side so on slow rock skis, are all very doable.  Classic is recommended because there is debris under the powder or melded into the ice, so some areas it is definitely lurchy.  Obviously no tracks set in the hard ice, so lots of double poling, short diagonal strides, or herringbone only.  If you have sharpened rollerski poles, use those.  The ice was so hard, my regular snow baskets were slipping all over the place...
